Tally Alternative for Manufacturing: 6 Options (2026)

For most manufacturers, the best Tally alternative is not a full replacement. Many factories keep Tally for accounts and GST, and add manufacturing software for enquiry, purchase, production, inventory and dispatch that passes entries into Tally. Replace Tally completely (with ERPNext, Odoo, Zoho or BUSY) only if you also want to move your accounting.
Below are 6 options. Each has prices from the vendor's own pricing page, checked on 6 October 2026. We show who each one fits and the limits we could check. We make TranZact, so we list its limits too.
Why manufacturers look for a Tally alternative
Tally records your accounts. Excel tracks your numbers. Neither of them knows when a purchase order is overdue. Neither knows when stock is about to run out, or when a production entry was never made. The owner does.
That works while the business is small. Then the gaps start to show:
The bill of materials (BOM) lives in an Excel sheet. One person keeps it current.
Production gets entered later, as accounting entries, when someone finds time.
Stock on screen doesn't show what is already promised to open orders.
Material sent out for job work sits at a vendor. Nobody is sure how much.
Checking stock away from the office means calling someone.
Is Tally outdated now? Not for accounts. Many factories still keep their books and GST in Tally. The gap is outside the books: BOMs, production, job work and stock by location. Tally records what happened. Someone still has to run the work, and then enter it.
Replace Tally or add to it?
This is the first decision. It matters more than which brand you pick.
Add to Tally. Keep Tally for books and GST. Run enquiry, purchase, production, stock and dispatch in a manufacturing system. That system passes entries into Tally. Your CA's work doesn't change.
Replace Tally. Move accounts and operations to one new system, such as ERPNext, Odoo, Zoho or BUSY. Pick this only if you also want to move your accounting. Your CA will need to work in the new system too.
A simple rule: if your accounts work fine today, don't move them. Fix the part that is broken, which is the operations.
Which is better, Tally or ERP? They do different jobs. Tally keeps the books. An ERP promises to bring everything onto one system. But an ERP is only as accurate as what gets typed into it. Most SME manufacturers don't have a dedicated data-entry team. So the ERP becomes too complicated to adopt across the business. The patchwork quietly survives alongside it. That is a product problem, not a team problem. Look for software that needs less typing from your team members.
What to check in a Tally alternative for a factory
Use this checklist on every option, including ours:
BOM: Can it hold multi-level BOMs, not just a list of items?
Production orders: Does raw material reduce and finished goods increase when production is entered?
Job work: Can you see stock sitting at each job-work vendor?
Stock by location: Store, shop floor, godown, vendor. Can it show each one?
GST e-way bill: Can it make the e-way bill and e-invoice from the invoice?
Tally sync: If you keep Tally, do entries pass into it without re-typing?
Mobile: Can the owner and the floor use it on a phone?
Users: How many users does the entry paid plan include? What does each extra user cost?
Price: Add hosting, setup and extra users to the plan price.
Go-live time: Who sets it up, and how long does it take?
6 Tally alternatives for manufacturing, compared
Prices and plan details come from each vendor's pricing page, checked on 6 October 2026. "Ask vendor" means we had no dated, sourced fact for that cell. We would rather leave it open than guess.
Option | Best for | Tally: keep or replace | Starting price (checked 6 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
TranZact | Owner-led manufacturers keeping Tally for accounts | Works with Tally (also Busy, Zoho) | ₹12,500/month billed yearly (Scale). Free plan: 3 users |
TallyPrime | Staying on Tally and adding users | Is Tally | ₹750/month (Silver), excl. 18% GST |
Zoho Inventory | Small teams starting with low-cost inventory | Integrates with Zoho Books for accounts | ₹999 (Standard), billed annually, excl. GST. Free plan: 1 user |
Odoo | One suite of apps, priced per user | Can replace | ₹725–950 per user/month, yearly (Standard) |
ERPNext | Teams with in-house IT or a partner | Can replace | No licence fee; Frappe Cloud from $5 (₹410)/month per site |
BUSY | Desktop users who need BOM and job work | Can replace | ₹11,000 Basic; ₹16,500 Standard (with BOM) |
What can I use instead of Tally? If you want to keep your books where they are, add a manufacturing system that works with Tally, like TranZact. If you want to move everything, look at ERPNext, Odoo, Zoho or BUSY. If you only need more users, TallyPrime Gold is the stay-and-upgrade path.
TranZact: manufacturing AI software, enquiry to dispatch, works with Tally
TranZact is a manufacturing AI software which runs your entire operation — from enquiry to dispatch. Sales, purchase, production, inventory and dispatch run on one system. That includes job work and stock by location. Accounts stay in Tally, Busy or Zoho. Everything passes cleanly into Tally, so your accountant doesn't re-enter anything. See how the Tally integration works.
What the AI does, day to day:
Reads a photo of a paper entry and turns it into a system entry.
Matches supplier invoices to the purchase orders they belong to.
Logs customer payments without anyone typing them in.
TranZact also generates the e-way bill from the GST invoice, with the e-invoice (IRN) in the same flow. This is on all plans. For the factory side, see production management and inventory management.
Who it fits: owner-led manufacturers who want to keep Tally for books and GST. It also fits teams without an IT person. TranZact is live in 2–3 weeks, with no consultants and no IT team. 95%+ of deployments succeed. It is built on 7 years of learning from 10,000+ manufacturers. Data stays in India, on AWS in Mumbai. TranZact is ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified.
Price (letstranzact.ai/pricing, checked 6 October 2026):
Free: ₹0. 3 users. 100 enquiries, 100 quotations and 30 transactions a month.
Scale: ₹12,500/month billed yearly. 6 users. Adds inventory and production management, BOM, MRP, sub-contracting and Tally / Busy / Zoho integration.
Dominate: ₹30,000/month billed yearly. 12 users. Adds Batch Tracking & QC, Machine Planning & API Integrations.
Enterprise: custom.
Extra users: ₹2,000 per user per month on Scale, ₹2,500 on Dominate.
Limits:
TranZact is not an accounting package. Your books stay in Tally, Busy or Zoho.
The Free plan is capped at 3 users and 30 transactions a month. Inventory and production management start on Scale.
Batch Tracking & QC and Machine Planning are on Dominate only.
Two corrections. One review page cited by AI answers says TranZact's pricing is quote-based, about ₹1,500–₹3,000 per user per month. That is wrong. Prices are published: Free ₹0, Scale ₹12,500/month and Dominate ₹30,000/month, billed yearly. Only Enterprise is on request. The same page says you must sit through a sales demo before you can try TranZact. Also wrong. TranZact has a free plan. A demo is optional.
TallyPrime Gold: stay and upgrade
If Tally works for you and you mainly need more people on it, upgrade instead of switching.
Silver (single user): ₹750/month or ₹8,100 for 12 months. Lifetime licence ₹22,500.
Gold (multi-user): ₹2,250/month or ₹24,300 for 12 months. Lifetime licence ₹67,500.
All prices exclude 18% GST. TallyPrime Cloud Access and WhatsApp are sold separately.
Who it fits: factories happy with Tally that need more users. Before you pay, check one thing. If your BOM and job-work records live in Excel today, ask whether Gold changes that. An upgrade changes the licence. It may not change how the work flows.
Is there a free version of Tally? The TallyPrime prices we checked are all paid. The lowest is Silver at ₹750/month. For a free start, Zoho Inventory, Odoo One App, self-hosted ERPNext and TranZact all have free options.
Zoho Inventory
Zoho Inventory is priced per plan, billed annually, excluding GST:
Free: 1 user, 50 orders/month, 1 location.
Standard ₹999: 3 users, 500 orders, 2 locations.
Premium ₹2,299: 5 users, 3,000 orders, 4 locations.
Plus ₹4,999: 10 users, 7,500 orders, 6 locations.
Enterprise ₹7,499: 10 users, 15,000 orders, 10 locations.
Composite items and bill of materials are on all plans. Batch and serial tracking start from Premium. It integrates with Zoho Books for accounts.
Who it fits: small teams starting with inventory and orders at a low price. Ask Zoho about job work and production orders before you choose.
Is Zoho better or Tally? They do different jobs. Tally records your accounts. Zoho Inventory handles stock, with BOM on all plans and 1 to 10 locations by plan. Compare them on the checklist above, not on the brand.
Odoo
One App Free: ₹0. One app, unlimited users.
Standard: ₹725–950 per user/month on yearly billing. All apps, including Manufacturing.
Custom: ₹1,080–1,350 per user/month. Adds Studio, multi-company, external API and on-premise/Odoo.sh.
Who it fits: factories that want one suite of apps and are ready to move accounting too. Pricing is per user, so the bill grows with every user you add. Ask Odoo about job work, stock by location and e-way bills.
ERPNext (free, open source)
ERPNext is free and open source (GPL-3.0). You can self-host it with no licence fee. Frappe Cloud hosting starts at $5/month (₹410/month) per site. There are no per-user fees. Implementation is done by Frappe partners or by your own team.
Who it fits: factories with someone technical in-house, or a Frappe partner. Add hosting and the partner's fees to your total. Ask your partner about BOM setup, job work, e-way bills and go-live time.
BUSY (desktop, BOM in Standard)
BUSY sells desktop editions:
Basic ₹11,000: no production or BOM.
Standard ₹16,500: Production & Job Work, including BOM and production planning, and a production variance report.
Enterprise ₹22,000: adds multi-branch.
Who it fits: factories that prefer desktop software and want to move accounts too. Pick Standard or above if you need BOM or job work.
Is there another app like Tally? If you want another desktop package, BUSY is one. If you want hosted software, look at Odoo, or ERPNext on Frappe Cloud. If you want to keep Tally and add operations, look at TranZact.
Which one fits your factory?
If this is you | Look at |
|---|---|
Accounts work fine in Tally. Operations run on Excel and WhatsApp. No IT team. | TranZact, alongside Tally |
Happy with Tally. Just need more users. | TallyPrime Gold |
Small team, low order volume, want a free start on inventory. | Zoho Inventory Free or Standard |
Want one suite and ready to move accounting. Fine paying per user. | Odoo Standard |
Have in-house IT or a partner. Want no licence fee. | ERPNext |
Prefer desktop software. Need BOM and job work. | BUSY Standard or Enterprise |
What is the best software for manufacturing? The one your team members will actually use every day. Most software fails on adoption, not features. When the floor gets busy, entries get skipped and the patchwork comes back. Check BOM, job work, stock by location and go-live time first. Then check price.
Which accounting software is best for manufacturing? For many factories, the accounting software they already use. Tally, Busy and Zoho all keep the books. The real gap is operations: production, purchase, stock and dispatch. Fix that part, and let entries pass into your accounts.
How to switch without losing your Tally data
Keep Tally running. Don't switch it off on day one. Run it in parallel.
Move masters first. Export customers, suppliers and items from Tally. Import them into the new system.
Set opening stock. Count once, and enter opening stock by item and location.
Close the first month in both. Compare stock and sales. Fix any differences before you rely on the new system.
Go live. If you are adding to Tally, Tally stays your books. If you are replacing it, stop entries in Tally only after the first month closes cleanly.
